    I don’t usually consider pieces from SOG when I’m looking at a dedicated knife. I have had a few of their multi tools and love the compound leverage pliers, so when I saw a USA made, overbuilt, XR lock flipper for 140 bucks, I figured it was worth a shot. I was correct, it was worth the shot. Sharp out of the box, decent blade geometry, insanely good flipping action, and a hydraulic, smooth, satisfying drop shut that sounds like you’re loading artillery. It’s a behemoth. I wish the clip was deeper, but it’s a purpose built tool and its purpose is satisfying to use. It’s not lightweight, it’s not slim, it’s not that perfect EDC, and that’s what I love. SOG went for a folder with a fixed blade feel and this achieves that in a way I’ve only ever experienced with Cold Steel. By the way, AMAZING action, yet when I crank on the blade to look for any movement, it’s SOLID. Every folder has a little give if you really crank on the blade towards the tip. This one locks up like a bank vault. I’ve only experienced that kind of feel on a triad lock. Good on you SOG. Keep this good stuff coming.

    As an owner of ten zero tolerance flipper knives, for me to try another manufacturer was a stretch. SOG got this one right. Great balance, sharp and built well, with no play in the blade when deployed. The blade release button for closure is really nice too. I have large hands so the size is not a problem, the jimping on the handle and deployment is a bit coarse, but not a problem. I guess if you have small soft hands don’t buy this knife, otherwise it’s a winner

    This SOG folder is a tank. One of the best toughest and well-made tactical folding knives on the market. The blade is exceptionally thick and heavy the chinking around the edges and across the handles guarantee a sure grip on any conditions. Be sure to get this model that’s made in America. There is an almost identical model made outside the US that should not be confused for the one made in America. This American made folder is battle ready and is my absolute favorite go to EDC knife.

    I have wanted this knife for a long time. When I saw the discounted price, it was a no-brainer. It feels sturdy and substantial. It clicks open crisply with the flipper tab and it locks up solidly. The XR lock works flawlessly for me and it is fun to fidget with.

    If you read the description, you know going in this is a bulky, stout knife, with aggressive jimping and texturing. If that is what you’re looking for I don’t think you’ll have any complaints.

    To start, the knife is an absolute unit. It is an absolute tool and machine. That being said, it’s quite heavy and bulky. The blade shape and coating is top tier for a knife even with the flat glass breaker at the bottom. If you have large hands like myself, the actual handle is pretty nice and grippy to hold.

    HOWEVER: This has to be the dumbest and worst placed locking mechanism I’ve had on a knife. I am a pretty tall and big dude but the locking mechanism is painful to reach to open and close the knife. Cut myself a couple times because when you hit the locking mechanism, your finger kind of falls in the way. And if you do two handed closing, it catches a little bit and is pretty awkward.

    If you need this for tactical situations and need something to be a fast opener, this knife is not it, at all.

    If you want a workhorse of a knife that’ll serve you as a solid tool all around, this is definitely it.
